The «tireless» standard couple Jürg Briner/Katharina Egli from Dance Unlimited Zurich (DUZ) fulfilled a great dream at the CSIT World Championships in San Marino; they became world champions for the first time in the Senior IV category. Congratulations on this marvellous achievement!
The previous year's runners-up, who had narrowly failed to win, had already been in top form all season and won a total of 7 out of 8 tournaments in Italy, each of which had 50-100 couples competing. The DUZ pair also won the CSIT World Games title in June.
In San Marino, everyone was therefore expecting a duel between Briner/Egli and the French defending champions Philipp Quinet/Patricia Lauble-Quinet. They had to survive a total of five rounds up to the final, keeping 43 couples from 7 nations at bay. The longer the tournament lasted, the more liberated Briner/Egli danced. Not least thanks to their fitness, they improved once again in the decisive final, where they impressed the judges and audience with their joy of dancing and great dynamism.
Other Swiss couples were also very successful at these CSIT Standard World Championships. Beat Künzi/Barbara Kaufmann (Tanzsport Bern) achieved 5th place in the Senior II category. In the Youth category, Arjan Steurer/Aroa Martin (Happy Dancers Baden) came fourth. And Pirmin Kistler/Miriam Lehnherr (DUZ) secured a fine 2nd place in the Senior II ten-dance category. All these successful standard couples will also be on show in Tenero on Saturday 22 November at the Swiss Championships. A trip to Ticino is well worthwhile!
Standard and ten-dance couples from over 25 nations competed in San Marino for the titles of the «World Federation of Professional and Amateur Sports», as the association CSIT (Confédération Sportive Internationale Travailliste et Amateur), which has been recognised by the IOC since 1973, and recorded over 500 starts over three days. Over 200 million athletes from 60 nations and 33 sports are organised in the CSIT association.
