Stopped by an injury, absorbed due to exams, now successfully back again - Davide Corrodi/Maja Kucharczyk won the Swiss Ten Dance Championships in Sion in a superior manner. The couple from Tanzsportclub Zug thus secured their 12th gold medal at national title competitions.
Because Büchel/Landolfi had to withdraw from their first championships in Valais at short notice due to a stomach flu, the main category was deprived of an attractive comparison on the dance floor. As a result, the eyes of the pleasingly large number of spectators were mainly focused on the big favourites and defending champions. Corrodi/Kucharczyk showed that they are back after a break of several months and left no doubt as to the winner. In the ten-dance, their favourite discipline, they are now already 7-time national champions. Once again, their main goal this year is to reach the final of the World Ten Dance Championships for the first time.
Fast relocation required
Due to the low number of entries, the main category and youth tournaments were combined and the semi-final and final were danced within 90 minutes. Not only physical qualities, but also quick changes of clothes from standard to Latin and back were required. Vladyslav Davydiuk/Valentyna Dziubenko (DUZ/UDSC) mastered this challenge best in the youth category and clearly relegated Arjan Steurer/Aroa Martin (HBD) to silver place this time.
Felix Locher/Silvia Nater (TTZ) won eight of the ten dances in the senior category and clearly relegated Pierre Yves Richoz/Audrey Etter (KapDanse Geneva) to second place this time. The junior tournament was won by Mihail Novikov/Taisiia Vasileva (DUZ), while Antoine Xavier Diebold/Ylvi Koch (HDB) won the junior title for the first time.
Worthy premiere in Valais
The Club Danse Azur Sion, under the direction of organiser Dominique Evéquoz, succeeded in organising a beautiful and worthy event in cooperation with the STSV. The ballroom proved to be suitable, only the lighting of the dance floor was not satisfactory.
New spectators came into contact with dance sport for the first time in this region. We can only hope that even more dance couples will make the journey to Valais at the next opportunity.
