No kidding - for the first time Davide Corrodi/Maya Kucharczyk have won a WDSF tournament. On 1 April, they secured this triumph in the ten-dance WDSF Open of Bassano del Grappa in Italy. The Zug couple thus underpinned their leading position in the world rankings. They had taken this position after two 2nd places in December at the tournaments in Rimini and Zagreb.
In their latest success, they were convincing all along the line, relegating Japan's Onishi/Onishi and the Danish pair Berzins/Kroegsboll to the places of honour. They won nine out of ten dances. They showed the greatest superiority in the Chachacha and the English Waltz, where eight of the eleven judges put them in first place. Only in the Viennese Waltz did they have to settle (very narrowly) for second place.
The season's highlight for the ten-dancers will take place on 11 November in Vila Nova, Portugal. Should Corrodi/Kucharczyk be able to maintain their form, then a first-time appearance in the final of a major ten-dance championship would be very realistic. Last year, the two reigning Swiss champions finished 12th at both the European and World Championships.
