The premiere of the Swiss Dance Award has again been postponed by one year and is now planned for January 2023. The current situation for an elaborate, cross-discipline gala evening of Swiss dance sport in the AXA Arena Winterthur continues to be relatively unstable. Despite good developments in connection with Covid-19 in Switzerland, the organisers, sports associations and participants continue to face many unanswered economic, social and sporting questions.
The IG Swiss Dance Award has decided, after consultation with the participating dance sport federations, not to take the risk of holding the event for the first time and to wait for further developments. The newly gained time will be used to develop alternative forms for the Swiss Dance Award and to consider first PR activities and actions between different disciplines. Concrete steps and measures will be discussed in autumn 2021.
The Swiss Dance Award will bring together eight different dance disciplines in two categories. The best Swiss dance couple in standard, Latin, rock’n’roll and boogie woogie will be chosen, as well as the best Swiss dance group in hip-hop, jazz dance, cheer dance and tap dance. Two dancers from each discipline will compete against each other in the semi-finals for a place in the final. A jury of experts and the audience will judge the performance and decide on advancement and placement. The audience will also be treated to culinary delights and will move on the dance floor to the live sounds of the Dani Felber Band.
