Standard European champions switch to the pros

The European Standard Championships in Vilnius/Lithuania, the last international competition of the year, was a successful home match for the defending and reigning world champions Evaldas Sodeika/Ieva Zukauskaite. In front of their enthusiastic home crowd, who celebrated them with a standing ovation during the Quickstep, they won the last title of their amateur career without any danger. After the competition, they announced their transfer to the Professional Division after 3 World Championship and European Championship titles each and 7 Grand Slam victories, paving the way for new title winners in 2020-24.

The two Swiss couples had a tough time in Vilnius at the end of a long season, because the level of competition at a European Championship is usually even higher than at a World Championship. Davide Corrodi/Maja Kucharczyk (Tanzsportclub Zug) and Vova Kasilov/Yulia Dreier (Dance Unlimited Zurich) already performed very well in the preliminary round, dancing dynamically and with good charisma. They had a good chance of qualifying directly for the round of 24. Unfortunately, however, both couples unexpectedly had to enter the hopeful round, where only 6 couples were able to qualify for the next round. The Swiss pairing failed to make it through and finished in 29th place (Corrodi/Kucharczyk) and 32nd place (Kasilov/Dreier).
