Breaking is still the first Olympic appearance of a dance sport - in Paris 2024, the best 16 breakers will step into the spotlight. The WDSF has long been in a state of joyful excitement.
But already last week in Singapore, where the first Olympic E-Sport Series took place, dancing was given an Olympic touch. With "Just Dance" and other e-sport games, including cycling, archery, baseball, chess, sailing and tennis, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants to reach a completely new, much younger target audience and thus attract new sponsors.
The event in Singapore was a test run - whether "Just Dance" and other games will soon become Olympic is still written in the stars. That this game will get a boost in the gaming community is probably certain. There was already a competition-like dance scene in e-sports before that. STSV is keeping a close eye on this development.
